About us
We are a nonprofit, no-kill cat rescue in the Midwest, particularly in Southeast Michigan. We are not supported by any governmental agency, nor do we have a shelter facility. When we have foster home space, we accept abandoned or displaced purebreds in addition to those relinquished whose owners' circumstances have changed. All our rescues have incoming health exams. They are vet-checked, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, tested for FIV/Felk, given preventive routine deworming applications, checked for dental health and treated for illness as recommended by our rescue's main veterinary hospital. If long-hair cats are matted they are also groomed.

Adoption Process:
NOTE: You must be 21 years or older to adopt from Backdoor Friends Purebred Cat Rescue. The home owner or apartment lessee must also sign the contract if different than the adopter.
1. Obtain an adoption application by emailing ([email protected]) or on this site in the drop down menu under "CONTACT" where you can fill it out online and click "submit."
2. Applications are reviewed by Backdoor Friends Purebred Cat Rescue Board Members.
3. Upon approval, a private viewing (meet and greet) is scheduled.
4. Sign contract, pay adoption fee with cash or check and arrange for pick up of new family member with a cat carrier. Cats must be picked up in a carrier!
ADOPTION FEES
We have recently implemented a sliding adoption fee with some cats. Check their descriptions on Petfinder.com or look on our "Gallery" drop down menu "Shy Cats" and "Special Needs."
We may charge more than regular adoption fees, listed in categories below, for purebred cats. The price will depend on the breed, the cat's temperament and personality or other special circumstances.
Kittens Six Months and under- $175.00 for one, or $300 for two, plus a $50 deposit per kitten that is returned after proof of spay/neuter surgery from a licensed vet.
Adult cats ten years and under $150.00
For two adult cats, there is a $50 discount so the total would be $250 for two.
Over ten years- $100.00
We reserve the right to ask for an increased adoption fee for purebred cats.

More About Us
We do not ship cats. If you live outside of Michigan and are able to drive to our area to meet and adopt your cat after your application is approved, adoption out-of-state can been done. All applicants must fill out an application and expect that landlords and veterinarians will be asked for a good reference. Renters whose landlords do not allow pets will not be approved. Backdoor Friends Purebred Cat Rescue Board members review applications as quickly as possible. On business days, approval could be within the week if all information is filled out on the adoption application.
If you do not receive an emailed application within 48 hours after you have requested one, please send an email followup to us to confirm receipt. If you have emailed a completed application and do not hear that it was received within 48 hours, please email to see if it was received and is under review.
If you have adopted from us before, you do not have to fill out another application.
Our adoption contract says you will keep your adopted cat inside. Also, when you sign a contract, you promise you will not surrender your adopted cat to a shelter if your circumstances change. Please contact us if your cat changes homes or addresses. We followup with our cats and like to know how they are doing. We welcome updates, pictures and video of our cats and kittens.
Events
We may participate in fund raising events during the year by having a table at the event with cat items for sale, along with pictures and descriptions of our adoptable cats, a donation jar, business cards and applications. If you would like to be on our email list, please let us know. We will contact you when there is a special event. Volunteers can respond whenever their schedules allow, and it has been fun to get to know other cat lovers and Backdoor Friends' supporters through these events. We usually do not bring cats to our fund raising events, because they can get stressed being moved from place to place.
If you have gently used cat items or supplies to donate, please contact us to arrange a drop-off. Thank you for your support.

Foster Parent Testimonials
"My experience with Backdoor friends has been nothing but positive. They came to my home to interview me to match me with a suitable cat to foster. And, then Levana Snow came to stay. She was loving and wonderful. Backdoor Friends provided me with a cat carrier, food, and any veterinary services that may be required. They eventually found her a perfect home. They are very supportive throughout the entire process. I strongly suggest anyone who loves cats, help support Backdoor Friends Purebred Cat Rescue by fostering a cat or kitten. Besides it's fun!" ~Nancy LeFleur, Livonia, Michigan

~This is a wonderful organization. We adopted Baby Dumpling from BDF's in 1998 and Sally in 1999. We have fostered some wonderful kitties. Some have became permanent residents. Baby Dumpling and Sally have passed over the Rainbow Bridge, but we still have Adam, Jules, M & M and Belle. You might say we are foster failures. BDF is a wonderful organization to work with. Rescue or foster, it is the only way to go.
